Custom Tote Bags for Law Firms: Client Gifts and Events

Law firms are some of the most careful buyers I talk to, and I understand why.

A law firm's name is its reputation, so anything that carries the logo has to look calm, well-made, and useful. Nobody at a law firm wants a loud giveaway that ends up in a drawer.

The good news is that a plain cotton tote bag with a small, neat print fits that mood very well. It is quiet, it is practical, and people actually carry it to court, to the office, and to the shop.

In this guide I go through which bags suit law firms, how to keep the branding understated, which bags hold A4 files, what a good client gift looks like, and what it all costs.

What this post covers:

Which tote bags suit law firms best?

For most law firms, the best fit is a dark, well-made cotton bag with a small logo in one print colour.

Black, navy and graphite grey are the colours I would suggest first, because they look serious and they hide everyday wear. The print is usually white, or a soft tone close to the bag colour.

For client gifts, I would choose a heavier bag, such as our Fairtrade Camden shopper, sometimes with a printed wine bag next to it. For conferences and trainee packs, a lighter 140 g/m² or 220 g/m² tote does the job at a much lower price per bag.

You can order from 25 pieces; every bag is printed with your own logo, and delivery within the EU is included in the price.

That is the short version, and the rest of this post fills in the details.

How do you brand a tote bag for a conservative law firm?

The simplest rule is this: make the logo smaller than you think it should be.

A small logo in the upper part of the bag, or low in one corner, reads as confident and professional. A huge logo across the whole front starts to look like an advertisement, and that is rarely the feeling a law firm wants.

Tone-on-tone print is the second trick. A dark grey print on a black bag, or a light grey print on a natural bag, is only visible when you look closely, and it feels very elegant. I wrote more about this in our post on tone-on-tone tote bags.

One print colour is usually enough. Your brand colour or plain white will look cleaner than a full-colour logo with many shades, and a one-colour print is also the most affordable option on most of our bags.

A short line of text can work too. Some firms like the name only, set in their own typeface, without the logo mark at all.

If you want to see why dark bags are so popular with businesses in general, our post on why businesses choose black totes explains it well.

In short, a law firm's bag should whisper the name, not shout it.

Which tote bags fit A4 files and legal documents?

Lawyers carry paper, so the size of the bag really matters.

An A4 sheet measures 21 × 29.7 cm, and a classic flat tote of 38 × 42 cm takes A4 folders easily, even with a laptop sleeve next to them. That is why our 140 g/m² and 220 g/m² flat totes are such a safe choice.

For thick files, choose a bag with gussets. A gusset is the extra fabric at the sides and bottom that lets the bag open into a box shape. Our black 220 g/m² tote with side and bottom gussets keeps a ring binder or a stack of case papers standing upright instead of bending them.

For a smaller, smarter bag, the Camden shopper measures 28 × 38 × 12 cm. It is narrower than a classic tote but still holds A4 documents standing up, and the 12 cm gusset gives room for a notebook and a water bottle.

The graphite grey organic shopper is 32 × 35 cm with a 12 cm gusset. It is a good everyday bag, but check that your thickest folders fit before you choose it for document use.

My advice is simple: if the bag will carry case files, choose gussets and a weight of 220 g/m² or more.

What makes a good year-end client gift from a law firm?

A good client gift from a law firm is useful, modest and clearly well made.

Clients receive a lot at the end of the year, and the gifts that last are the ones they use. A sturdy tote bag gets carried for years, so your name keeps showing up long after the chocolates are gone.

The Camden shopper is the bag I would suggest for this. It is made of Fairtrade cotton at 407 g/m², which is a thick, firm fabric that feels like a real bag rather than a giveaway. In black with a small white or grey logo, it looks very calm.

A printed wine bag makes a nice second piece. Our black cotton bottle bag at 407 g/m² holds one bottle, and you can print the firm's name on it in the same style as the tote. If you want more ideas for bottle gifts, our guide to custom printed wine bags goes into detail.

Keep gift rules in mind. Many companies and public bodies have rules about the value of gifts their staff can accept, so a modest, practical gift is often easier for your clients than an expensive one.

If you also send gifts to a wider group of contacts, our post on tote bags as corporate gifts has more ideas for HR and events teams.

A good bag plus a short handwritten card says more than a large box ever could.

Which tote bags work for legal conferences and bar events?

For legal conferences, think in larger numbers and lower prices per bag.

A conference bag is handed to every delegate, so a firm that sponsors a session or hosts a stand often needs a few hundred pieces. Here the price per bag drops quickly as the quantity grows.

Our black 140 g/m² cotton tote is the classic choice for this. It costs €8.02 per bag at 25 pieces, €3.15 at 100 and €1.98 at 500, with a one-colour print. At 1,000 pieces, the price is €1.87, so 1,000 bags cost €1,870.00 excl. VAT.

Think about who keeps the bag. A conference full of lawyers is a conference full of people who carry documents, so a plain dark bag with a neat logo has a good chance of being used again at the office.

Add the event name only if you must. A bag with the firm's name alone can be used for the next event too, while a bag with this year's date is finished when the conference ends.

For bigger events, order a little more than the number of registered guests, because speakers, staff and late registrations always appear.

What goes into a welcome pack for trainees and new associates?

A welcome pack is the first thing a new trainee or associate receives from the firm, so it sets the tone.

A tote bag works well as the "box" for the pack, because the new person can carry it home and keep using it. Inside you might put a notebook, a good pen, a water bottle, a card from the team and perhaps a guide to the office.

The graphite grey organic shopper is a nice choice here. It is GOTS certified organic cotton at 170 g/m², and the dark grey colour looks modern without being loud. You can read what the certificate covers on the GOTS website.

Order once for the whole year. Many firms take in trainees once or twice a year, so it often makes sense to order enough bags for every intake in one go, because the price per bag is lower at higher quantities.

If you want more ideas for what to put inside, our post on how to build a new employee welcome kit lists ten examples.

A good welcome pack tells the new person that the firm pays attention to detail.

Does a law firm need a sustainable tote bag?

More and more firms ask this question, and I think it is a fair one.

Many law firms now have their own sustainability goals, and clients sometimes ask about them. A cotton bag that is used for years is already a better choice than a plastic giveaway that is thrown away.

Certified cotton helps if you need proof. The graphite shopper is GOTS certified organic cotton, and the Camden shopper is made of Fairtrade cotton. The Fairtrade website explains what the Fairtrade mark means for the farmers.

Use is what counts most. The most sustainable bag is the one that gets carried again and again, so a good size and a neat design matter as much as the fabric.

If sustainability is part of your firm's story, tell us, and we will point you to the certified bags first.

Which bag fits which moment at a law firm?

Here is a quick overview of the most common moments and the bag that suits each one.

Moment Bag Why
Year-end client gifts Black Fairtrade Camden shopper, 407 g/m² Thick, firm and calm, holds A4 upright
Wine gift for clients Black cotton bottle bag, 407 g/m² Holds one bottle, same look as the tote
Legal conferences and seminars Black cotton tote, 140 g/m² Light, affordable at a few hundred pieces
Case files and binders Black tote with gussets, 220 g/m² Gussets keep thick files standing upright
Trainee and associate welcome packs Graphite grey organic shopper, 170 g/m² Certified organic cotton, modern colour
Office opening or anniversary Black Fairtrade Camden shopper, 407 g/m² A gift that feels special without being loud

You do not have to choose one bag for everything, and many firms end up with two: a heavier gift bag and a lighter event bag.

What do tote bags for a law firm cost?

All prices below are per bag, with a one-colour print, excluding VAT, and delivery within the EU is included.

Bag 25 pcs 100 pcs 500 pcs
Black cotton tote, 140 g/m² €8.02 €3.15 €1.98
Black tote with gussets, 220 g/m² €9.47 €4.42 €3.54
Graphite grey organic shopper, 170 g/m² €8.42 €5.86 €4.38
Black Fairtrade Camden shopper, 407 g/m² €12.69 €8.95 €7.36
Black cotton bottle bag, 407 g/m² €9.40 €6.13 €4.33

A few examples make the numbers easier to read.

25 client gifts: 25 Camden shoppers cost €317.25. If you add 25 bottle bags, that is another €235.00, so €552.25 for the whole gift set.

100 file bags: 100 black totes with gussets cost €442.00, which is €4.42 per bag.

A conference with 500 guests: 500 black 140 g/m² totes cost €990.00, which is €1.98 per bag.

The price per bag falls quickly between 25 and 100 pieces, so it is worth checking both before you decide. If you want to understand what else moves the price, our post on what premium really means is a good read on quality.

A second print colour adds a little to each bag, and the exact price for every quantity is shown on each product page.

How do you get the bag approved by partners and marketing?

At a law firm, a bag often needs the yes of several people, so it helps to make the approval easy.

Send us your logo as a vector file (AI, EPS, SVG or PDF) if you have one. If you only have a PNG or JPG, send it anyway, and we will tell you if it needs work before it can be printed cleanly.

Look at the digital proof together. Before anything is printed, we send a digital proof that shows the bag colour, the print colour, the size and the position of the logo. Forward it to the partners and the marketing team, and collect all comments in one reply.

Tell us your brand colour. We will show you which print colour is closest on the proof, so there are no surprises when the bags arrive.

Decide who has the final word. A single person who confirms the proof saves days of back and forth.

Printing starts only after the proof is approved, so nothing is produced until everyone is happy.

When should a law firm order tote bags?

Order earlier than you think, especially for December.

Production takes 10 to 15 working days from the moment the artwork is approved. That clock starts at approval, not at the order, so the time your team needs to agree on the proof comes on top.

For year-end client gifts, aim to have the proof approved by mid-November. That leaves room for a few days of internal approval and still gets the bags to your office in time to pack and send the gifts in December.

For a conference, count back three weeks from the day the bags must be at the venue, then add a week for your own approvals.

Add the date in the cart. When you order on the website, you can write the date you need the bags in the date box in the cart, so we can tell you straight away if it is tight.

If you are ordering for several offices, our page for head offices with deliveries across the EU explains how orders to several addresses work.

A relaxed timeline also gives you time to change the design if a partner asks for one more small adjustment.

FAQ about tote bags for law firms

What is the minimum order for a law firm?

The minimum order is 25 bags.

That makes it easy to order a small batch of client gifts first and a larger batch for events later.

Which tote bag colour suits a law firm best?

Black, navy and graphite grey are the safest colours for a law firm.

They look serious, they hide everyday wear, and a white or tone-on-tone print looks very clean on them.

Will an A4 folder fit in the bag?

Yes, every bag in this post holds A4 documents, apart from the bottle bag.

For thick files and binders, choose the 220 g/m² tote with side and bottom gussets.

Can we print only the firm's name instead of the logo?

Yes, a name in your own typeface works very well.

Send it as a vector file, and you will see it on the digital proof before anything is printed.

Can we see the bag before it is printed?

You will receive a digital proof that shows the bag, the print colour and the position of the logo.

Printing starts only after you approve it.

How long does it take?

Production takes 10 to 15 working days from artwork approval.

For December gifts, aim to approve the proof by mid-November.

Do you deliver to law firms outside my country?

Yes, we deliver across the EU, and delivery is included in the price.

If you have offices in several countries, ask us about sending bags to each address.

Are the prices per bag including VAT?

No, all prices are per bag excluding VAT.

VAT is added at checkout depending on your country and your VAT number.

Conclusion

A law firm's tote bag should be calm, practical and well made.

Choose a dark colour, a small logo and a size that fits A4, and pick a heavier Fairtrade bag for clients and a lighter bag for events. Order early for December, and let one person approve the proof.
