Can You Get a Tote Bag in Your Exact Brand Colour?
Share
Yes, you can get tote bags in your brand colour, but "exact" means something different for the bag than for the print.
The short answer: the print on the bag can match your Pantone code, because screen print ink is mixed to the number. The bag itself comes from stock fabric in a fixed set of colours, so you pick the closest match, and only very large orders can have the fabric dyed to your own code.
In this guide I explain how brand colour tote bags work in practice, how to find the stock bag closest to your Pantone, when custom-dyed fabric is worth it and what each route costs from 25 bags.

Three ways to get tote bags in your brand colour
There are three routes, and most brands use the first two together.
- Pick the closest stock bag colour. You choose from the bag colours that are already woven and dyed, from 25 pieces per design.
- Print your logo in your exact Pantone ink. With screen print, each ink colour is mixed to your Pantone number, so the logo is the part that matches exactly.
- Have the fabric dyed to your code. The bag is made from scratch in your colour, which needs a large quantity and several extra weeks.
For most orders, the smart move is a close stock colour plus a perfectly matched print.
What does "exact brand colour" mean on a cotton tote bag?
A brand colour is usually written as a Pantone code, and that code was made for ink, not for cotton.
Codes ending in C, like Pantone 7477 C, describe how an ink looks printed on coated paper. Pantone has a separate system for textiles, because a dyed cotton fibre takes up colour differently from a glossy page.
So when a brand guide says "Pantone 3282 C", the question for a bag is: which fabric colour comes closest to it, and which ink colour can hit it exactly?
Cotton also has texture, so light falls on it differently than on paper or a screen.
The same green can look slightly darker on a bag than in your brand book, simply because the woven surface creates tiny shadows.
How do stock tote bag colours work?
Stock colours are bags made in large runs from fabric that was dyed before it was cut and sewn.
Our classic 140 g/m² tote, for example, comes in 48 colours, and every colour page lists the colour code the maker gives for it. The Petrol Blue is listed as Pantone 7477C, the Emerald Green as Pantone 3282, the Classic Pink as Pantone 672C, and the Purple as Pantone 668C.
That reference is gold when you compare it with your brand guide.
You can put your own Pantone code next to the code on the product page and see how far apart they are before you order anything.
Because these bags are already made, there is no dyeing time and no extra minimum: you order from 25 pieces per design, and the typical production and delivery time is 10 to 15 working days after you approve the proof.
Stock colours are the fastest and cheapest way to a bag that reads as your brand.
A deep blue-green for brands that sit between navy and teal, 38 × 42 cm with long handles.
How do you find the closest tote bag to your Pantone colour?
Start with your code, not with a photo of your logo.
Here is the order I use when a customer sends me a brand guide:
- Write down your main brand colour and its Pantone code. If you only have a hex code from your website, ask your designer for the Pantone equivalent first.
- Open the colour family on our site. Our classic collection shows all 48 colours side by side, so you can narrow it down to two or three candidates.
- Compare the codes on the product pages. Each colour page lists its Pantone reference, which tells you more than the photo does.
- Decide what matters more: hue or depth. A bag can be the right blue but a little lighter, or the right darkness but a little greener, so choose the one your brand can live with.
- Let the print carry the exact colour. If the bag is close, a logo in your precise Pantone ink pulls the whole bag towards your brand.
If you are unsure between two colours, send us your code and we will tell you which stock colour comes closest.
We can usually also send you the maker's colour chart for the bag you are looking at.
For dark reds and purples, I have written separate guides on burgundy and bordeaux bags and purple, violet and plum bags, because those families have many close shades.
Two minutes with the codes saves a lot of guessing later.
Can the print on a tote bag match your Pantone exactly?
Yes, with screen print, the ink is the part that matches your brand colour exactly.
Screen printing uses one stencil per colour, and each colour is mixed as a solid ink to your Pantone number. That is why it is the method for logos, wordmarks and anything that must look the same on every bag.
Full colour print works differently.
It is printed digitally in CMYK, so your Pantone colour is built from four process inks and will be close, not identical. I explain the difference in more detail in how to choose print colours for your tote bags and in our guide to ink types for bag printing.
There is one more thing to know about ink on coloured bags: a light ink on a dark bag can let a little of the bag colour show through. Print partners can add a white layer under the colour so it stays bright, and we check this when we prepare your proof.
If your exact brand colour matters, choose screen print and send us your Pantone codes with the artwork.
A clear, bright green that works for brands with a green or teal palette.
When are custom-dyed tote bags in your brand colour worth it?
Custom-dyed fabric is worth it when you order a large quantity and you have time.
In this case the cotton is dyed to your code first, then cut, sewn and printed. You get a bag body in your own colour, but every step adds time, and the dye house needs enough fabric to make a batch worthwhile.
We see this clearly in our supplier answers.
For one project of 100 to 125 custom-sewn bags, a Polish maker told us the quantity was too small for custom fabric dyeing and offered their stock fabric instead. For another request, I told the customer that dyeing, sewing and printing would need around 6 to 8 weeks of processing, so a 15-day deadline was impossible.
The minimum for custom dyeing depends on the fabric and the maker, so we confirm it per order rather than promise one number.
What I can say is that it starts far above 25 bags, and it is a project for planned launches, not for next month's event.
If you are planning a big rollout with a fixed colour, write to us early and we will check the minimum, price and timing with the makers.
Brand colour tote bags: the three routes side by side
This table shows the three routes, plus full colour print for comparison.
| Route | Minimum | Time | Colour match | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Closest stock bag colour | 25 pcs per design | 10 to 15 working days after proof | Close, not exact | Most orders, events, shops |
| Exact Pantone print ink (screen print) | 25 pcs per design | 10 to 15 working days after proof | Exact on the print | Logos and wordmarks |
| Full colour print (DTF) | 25 pcs per design | 10 to 15 working days after proof | Close, CMYK | Photos, gradients, many colours |
| Custom-dyed fabric | Confirmed per order, far above 25 | Several extra weeks, around 6 to 8 in one case | Exact on the bag | Large planned launches |
For most brands, rows one and two together give the best result for the money.
What brands ask us about tote bag colours
Colour is one of the questions we get most often, and the requests are very specific.
A non-profit in Gothenburg asked us this month for 150 petrol-coloured bags for a festival. Petrol is a colour where the stock options are good, so this is exactly the kind of request where a stock bag plus the right print works well.
A Spanish consultancy asked for 150 to 200 emerald green bags for a networking event with a very short deadline.
Emerald green exists as a stock colour, but stock is real stock: when the makers do not have enough bags of that colour on the shelf, the colour is simply not available in time.
A retail software company wanted a pink close to their brand colour in a heavier 270 g/m² fabric.
We sent them the maker's material colour chart, and two pinks came closest to their code, Pantone 1895C and Pantone 670C. Each colour on such a chart has its own price, so the choice of shade also changes the quote.
And a fashion retailer asked whether there was another pink than the one they had seen, because the first one was not quite their pink.
The lesson from all of them is the same: send the code, give us your date and ask early.
A soft, friendly pink, one of several pinks in the classic range.
If pink is your brand colour, our guide to fuchsia vs magenta bags shows how close two pinks can look and still be different.
Brand colour beyond the tote bag body
Your brand colour does not have to be the whole bag.
Coloured handles are a quiet way to bring a brand colour in. A natural cotton bag with fuchsia pink handles, for example, says "pink brand" without the price of a fully coloured bag, and I explain the idea in coloured handle tote bags.
Tone-on-tone is another option: a light print on a light bag, or a dark print on a dark bag.
It works well when the bag colour is close to your brand but not exact, because the soft contrast makes small differences less visible. You can see examples in tone-on-tone tote bags.
On custom-made bags, handles and straps can sometimes be matched to your logo colour too, but that is a special request we check with the maker.
Small colour details often do more for a brand than a perfect bag colour.

How your brand colour tote bags look in photos and on screens
A screen shows colour with light, and a bag shows colour with dye, so they will never be identical.
Our product photos are taken on a white background so the colours are as fair as possible. Still, your monitor, phone and the light in the room all change what you see.
This is why I always trust the Pantone code on the product page more than the photo.
Daylight also matters.
A bag that looks deep blue indoors can look a little greener in sunlight, and a pink can look warmer under yellow shop lights. If your bags will be used mostly outdoors or mostly in one venue, keep that light in mind when you choose.
For social media and event photos, slightly bolder colours usually read better than very pale ones.
Choose by the code, then picture the bag where it will really be used.
How fabric and weight change a brand colour
The same colour name can look different on different fabrics.
A light 140 g/m² cotton is thinner and smoother, so colours look clean and a little lighter. Heavier cotton and canvas have more body, so the same dye tends to look deeper and richer.
Twill weave has a fine diagonal line that catches the light.
That gives colours a soft sheen and a more premium look, which is why many brands like a twill bag for client gifts. Our pink Fairtrade organic twill tote is a good example of how a pink looks in twill.
If you mix bag types in one campaign, for example a light tote and a heavier shopper, expect the two to look slightly different even when the colour names match.
When the match between bags matters, keep all of them in the same fabric and weight.

What brand colour tote bags cost
Coloured stock bags cost a little more than natural ones, and the price per bag falls quickly with quantity.
Here are the live prices for our classic 140 g/m² tote in any of its colours, including Petrol Blue, Emerald Green and Classic Pink, with a 1-colour print and excl. VAT.
| Quantity | Price per bag | Total |
|---|---|---|
| 25 pcs | €8.67 | €216.75 |
| 50 pcs | €5.47 | €273.50 |
| 100 pcs | €3.87 | €387.00 |
| 200 pcs | €3.09 | €618.00 |
| 500 pcs | €2.48 | €1,240.00 |
A second ink colour, for example your brand colour plus white, costs €4.52 per bag at 100 pieces instead of €3.87.
Full colour DTF on the same bag costs €10.85 per bag at 100 pieces, so for a logo in one or two brand colours, screen print is clearly the better value.
The pink Fairtrade organic twill tote starts at 50 pieces: €9.90 per bag at 50, €9.17 at 100 and €8.35 at 500.
As an example, the 150 petrol-coloured bags from the Gothenburg request would cost €3.38 per bag with a 1-colour print, €507.00 in total excl. VAT.
Every product page shows the price for your exact quantity and number of colours, so you never have to guess.
How to order tote bags in your brand colour
Ordering a brand colour tote bag is the same as ordering any other bag, with one extra step.
- Choose the closest stock colour using the Pantone reference on the product page.
- Choose the number of print colours in the print dropdown, or full colour if your design needs it.
- Upload your logo as a vector file (AI, EPS, PDF or SVG), see our guide to file types for printing.
- Write your Pantone codes in the order note. This is the extra step, and it is how the print partner knows which inks to mix.
- Approve the digital proof. Production starts after your approval, and the typical time is 10 to 15 working days.
If you need custom-dyed fabric, or you are unsure which colour to pick, write to us before you order.
That one email is often the difference between a good bag and the right bag.
FAQ about tote bags in your brand colour
Can I get a tote bag in my exact Pantone colour?
The print can match your Pantone code exactly with screen print. The bag itself comes in stock colours, so you choose the closest one, and only large orders can have the fabric dyed to your code.
Do your product pages show Pantone codes for the bag colours?
Yes, the classic tote colour pages list the colour code the maker gives, for example Pantone 7477C for Petrol Blue. That makes it easy to compare a brand colour tote bag with your brand guide.
What is the minimum for brand colour tote bags?
With a stock colour and a matched print, the minimum is 25 pieces per design on most bags. Custom-dyed fabric needs a much larger quantity, which we confirm per order.
How long does custom-dyed fabric take?
It adds several weeks, because the fabric is dyed before the bag is sewn and printed. In one recent case the processing needed around 6 to 8 weeks.
Can full colour print match my brand colour?
Full colour print is made in CMYK, so it gets close but cannot guarantee an exact Pantone colour. For an exact match on the logo, choose screen print.
Why does my bag look different from my screen?
Screens show colour with light and bags show colour with dye, and room light changes both. Trust the Pantone code on the product page more than the photo.
Are coloured tote bags more expensive than natural ones?
Yes, a little. The classic tote in a colour costs €8.67 per bag at 25 pieces and €3.87 at 100 pieces with a 1-colour print, excl. VAT.
Can the handles be in my brand colour?
Some bags come with coloured handles from stock, such as natural with fuchsia pink handles. On custom-made bags, matched handles are a special request we check with the maker.
In short: the right brand colour, the smart way
Your brand colour can absolutely live on a tote bag.
For most orders, the best result is a stock bag close to your Pantone code plus a logo printed in your exact ink. Custom-dyed fabric is there for large, planned launches, and coloured handles or tone-on-tone print can add the finishing touch.
Look up the code, compare it on the product page and tell us your Pantone numbers when you order.
The bag will do the rest of the branding for you.
