How to pick the right black bag

Black is the colour buyers ask for when the bag has to look considered rather than promotional. It is also the colour where the print, not the fabric, drives most of the decision.

Why black works for corporate and retail buyers

Black reads as deliberate. It sits next to almost any brand palette without competing, it photographs cleanly, and it hides handling marks better than any other shade we carry. If bags are being packed, transported, handed out and reused at an event, black still looks intact at the end of it. That is why it is the most-requested colour for company gifts, conferences, agencies and premium retail packaging.

How does a printed logo look on a black bag?

Black is a dark fabric, so any pale ink is printed over a white underbase to stay fully opaque. Without that underbase, white ink sinks into the weave and reads grey. The underbase is included in the print price shown on each product page, so the number you see is the number you pay.

White on black is the sharpest combination in the entire range. Metallics and single bright accents also hold well. Mid-tone colours — mid greys, muted olives, dusty blues — are the ones that lose definition, so if your logo is built from those, consider a natural bag instead.

Which bag weights come in black?

Nearly the full catalogue. Cotton at 100, 140, 200, 210 and 220 g/m²; organic cotton at 140 and 340 g/m²; Fairtrade organic twill at 210 g/m²; heavy canvas at 340, 407 and 475 g/m², including an oversized zipped tote. Black or navy?

Both behave as neutrals. Black is the more formal of the two and the better carrier for a white logo. Navy is slightly softer and tends to suit education, sport and public-sector work. If the bag sits alongside printed materials in your brand colours, navy usually blends; if the bag is meant to look like a product in its own right, black usually wins.

Does black fade or show marks?

Honestly: black hides dirt but shows lint and dust more than natural does, particularly on lighter cotton. If the bag is going to be handled a lot or photographed, the heavier weights from 220 g/m² upward hold their colour and structure noticeably better than the 100 and 140 g/m² promotional grades.
