Classic Cotton Tote (W101): the everyday choice, 49 colours

The Westford Mill Classic Cotton Tote, known industry-wide as the W101 or "Bag for Life," is the line most people picture when they hear the brand name.

It is a flat 140 g/m² cotton tote with long handles and no gusset, and it comes in 49 live colours, the widest colour range of any Westford Mill collection we stock and one of the widest in our entire catalogue.

That colour range is the whole point. If your brand palette is anything other than black, white, or navy, this is usually the first collection worth checking, because the odds of an exact or near-exact match are far higher here than on a standard budget tote.

Drawstring Gymsac (W110): built for events and bulk giveaways

The Westford Mill Drawstring Gymsac (W110) is a 12-litre drawstring bag, 37 × 46 cm, in 24 colours including two-tone options like pastel pink and white, or lavender and white.

The Westford Mill Cotton Pocket Jute range covers three formats: a small gift bag (26 × 22 × 14 cm), a midi tote (30 × 30 × 19 cm), and a full shopper (42 × 33 × 19 cm), all built from a cotton canvas and jute blend with a front pocket detail, in Natural only.

Weights run from 340 to 410 g/m² depending on the format.

The Westford Mill Heavyweight Organic Canvas Tote, the W801, is a 340 g/m² flat tote made from GOTS-certified organic cotton canvas, in 19 colours from White through Cappuccino Beige to Graphite Grey. GOTS, the Global Organic Textile Standard, certifies the cotton itself as organically grown and traceable through processing, which is a different claim from simply printing on undyed natural fabric.

The Westford Mill Chevron Handle Shopper, the W940, is a 407 g/m² gusseted shopper with a magnetic closure, made from GRS-certified recycled cotton, in Black, Natural, and Scarlet Red.

GRS, the Global Recycled Standard, verifies the recycled content and tracks it through the supply chain, which matters if your brand needs to state a sustainability claim with something behind it.

This is the smallest colour range in the lineup, three shades only, but it is also the most structured bag we stock in the range: a real shopper with a flat base and a closure, not a flat printed panel.

It suits corporate gifting and premium retail where the sustainability story is part of the pitch, not an afterthought.

Oversized Heavy Duty Canvas (W606): the workhorse tote

The Westford Mill Oversized Heavy Duty Canvas Tote, the W606, is the heaviest fabric in the range at 475 g/m², sized 47 × 40 × 17 cm with a zip closure, in 7 colours including Mushroom Beige and Bright Olive Green alongside the expected black and navy. It is also the most expensive collection we carry, from €11.78 per piece.

The zip and the oversized capacity are the point here. This is a bag built to be used hard and repeatedly, as a market tote, a retail carry-out bag, or a museum shop tote-for-life that a customer keeps using long after the visit, rather than a single-use giveaway.

Why do Westford Mill tote bags cost more?

Compare the Classic Cotton Tote at €2.87 per piece to a standard budget tote at €1.77, same 140 g/m² weight, and the gap looks strange until you break down what it is paying for.

• Colour range and dye consistency. Running 49 or 24 shades reliably, batch after batch, costs more than running five.
• Certification. GOTS and GRS both require independent auditing through the supply chain. That audit trail is priced into the W801 and the W940, not into an uncertified cotton bag.
• Construction. A flat panel is cheap to make. A gusseted shopper with a magnetic closure, or an oversized bag with a zip, needs more fabric, more stitching, and more assembly steps.
• Fabric weight. Heavier canvas simply uses more raw cotton per bag, and that scales the price directly, which is why the 475 g/m² Oversized Canvas sits at the top of the range.
